Malware or Adware found on approximately 90% of computers is destroying the enjoyment of the internet for our chilren - by Basil

In a recent survey it was found that around 90 percent of home computers have some form of Adware or Malware running through their sytems. So many times it is unwittingly downloaded by children who are just searching for information or games though the internet.
Many parents, myself included, won't let their kids use the internet now without supervision. A lot of these problems are downloaded in the guise of another file, usually something that is supposed to protect your computer rather than harm it or can easily be downloaded with simple games for the children.

Adware and Malware are different from viruses in that they aren't designed to stop the system working, rather they are there to promote someone elses site or product, usually in the form of pop-ups. These pop-ups are in the main just annoying, especially if there's only one or two but over time they seem to multiply to the point where your system goes so slow it is unusable. Other internet programs are there to spy on your system and report back to the people who distributed them which can be dangerous especially if you use your computer for accounts etc, these are called Spyware programs.

I have tried many programs to try to get rid of these problems once they are on the computer but it is so much harder to do than preventing the programs getting onto your system in the first place. As with anti-virus programs which generally tend to get rid of the virus by quarantining or deleting the folder as well as the virus which can cause system problems the same can be said of Adware.

Some software designed for specific viruses or Adware etc can solve the problem by deleting all the infected files and replacing them using their own folders but these types of software are only for that specific type of problem. For example a certain trojan could be sorted out by one program but is no good for getting rid of general problems.

There are certain programs out there on the internet which can be had for free, Spybot and Adaware are 2 fairly good ones in my opinion but as with most things the better programs to be had come at a small cost. Given how important and often used our computers are nowadays most people would prefer to be safe, especially with the risk of losing such things as baby photos, account information or even smaller things such as our childrens homework.
In short what seems to be the best way to protect your system is using programs such as those shown in this link to stop the problem programs getting onto your system rather than trying to fix it after they've infected a few or more files.
